It is crucial to know what the industry requires, not what is often seen on Instagram /Pinterest for example, as beautiful as the make-up can be. It is important for fast tracking your career to know exactly what is needed and how it is created in every situation, because you won't get a second chance with a client if it is wrong. Here are some images of commercial beauty make-up including smokey eyes. This is what you do a lot of the time and it's really important you are able to make someone look beautiful with natural looking skin, especially when they may be standing next to men with little make-up on. As you can see the standard of blending and is very high, even though this work is done at the beginning of the make up course after only a few days of training. We like to focus on the eye make up here and leave the rest fairly natural.

Hair styling is an essential skill for a make up artist these days - many make-up agents will not take you on without hair training. We teach nails on our make-up course because the details count. If you have a model placing her hands in the shot they need to be done! It is one of those skills that won't be mentioned when you are booked but will be expected of you on the job. It's a great way to boost a bridal party package too and I once was paid £400 to paint a very known American A list celebrity's nails with a clear varnish as I was the only make up artist on my agents books that also did nails!! You learn how to do a french manicure freehand and solid paint colour as well as a full and extensive manicure / pedicure.
Special effects make up is great fun and a very valuable skill to have, especially in the fields of TV and Film, opening up many more doors for you. The products and techniques used are very different from that of regular make up. Our special effects segment on the course is a very popular and well enjoyed! If you faint at the sight of blood, be prepared as this can turn some stomachs in class!
